DÍA 7 - Part 2. Great walk Lanzarote - La Graciosa: South section of La Graciosa hiking route
6h 15 (4h in movement) 15,5 km +410m / -410m
After arriving at La Graciosa with the 11:00h a.m. ferry from Lanzarote and passing through the diving center, we started the second route of the day. See the first route of the day here: Hiking Route Lanzarote – La Graciosa: Day 7 (1st part)
We started walking at 12:00 p.m. o’clock with a lot of heat on a dirt track. In brief we leave it and take a more secondary track to climb the Montaña del Mojón

Starting the route, towards the Mojón mountain
Quickly, we arrive at a very wide crater that we will skirt.

Mojón mountain crater
From here we have very good views of all the islands and we go around the entire crater from right to left admiring the landscape.

Beautiful views from the top of the Mojón mountain
At the end of the tour, still at the top, we see a small stone wind protection wall, ideal to stop here and eat our sandwiches sheltered from the wind. Immediately many lizards come to our feet to try to eat some crumb that we drop there, how shameless! 😊
It is the Haría Lizard (Gallotia Atlántida), an endemic reptile of Lanzarote and very beautiful. If we look we will see blue spots on the sides.

Haría Lizard
After the break, we go down the volcano a little cross country in the OE direction to go to find the main track (where bicycles and 4x4s circulate) that goes around the island.
There we approach the coastline where the waves break imposingly on the black rock forming impressive natural ‘boilers’ (water with so much foam that it seems to boil)

Main track, which goes around the island

‘Boiler’
We take this track until we reach the southern tip of the island, uff it is very very hot!
It is approximately 2:30 a.m. and we see that there is high tide and the beach of La Cocina cannot be seen (this beach can only be seen at low tide and can be reached on foot from the beach of Montaña Amarilla)

Panoramic, to the right the southern tip of the island, to the left Montaña Amarilla
Here we rest a bit and after we begin to climb Montaña Amarilla, which is named for its characteristic yellow color, it also has nice rock shapes that make it visually very beautiful.

Climbing Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain)
We easily go up a path that is marked by milestones, once at the top we approach the point on the left and then we will go around the entire crown in an anti-clockwise direction along the ridge. What a impresive views here also of Alegranza island, the other islets and the Risco de Famara of Lanzarote!

Left tip of Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain)

Highest point of Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain) and views of its crater
We go down along a small path until we reach the beach of Montaña Amarilla (yellow mountain) at around 4:00 p.m.
This natural beach is very beautiful at the base of the mountain, although it is not very big, we see that there are quite a lot of people. We go down, we leave our backpacks and go to the water to snorkel!

Playa Amarilla (Yellow Beach)
Suuuper cool! We see many different fish on a spectacular rock and sand bottom. Soles, small barracudas, parrot fish, mullet, bream, salemas, sargus sardines, weevils, boxfish and even small needle fish! It is very worthwhile to snorkel on this beach !!
We leave the beach, we eat and we go back to Caleta de Sebo along a sandy track where there are a lot of people and 4×4 (say that on the route to Montaña Amarilla we did not meet anyone)

Returning to Caleta del Sebo
We passed in front of the French beach, bigger and longer than the previous one, very beautiful too.

French Beach
We continue along the track passing through the Bahía del Salado, where the tide is receding and leaves pools of water on the rocks, it looks like a river mouth. And right here we see some plovers walking through the sand. How cool they are! Also egrets and seagulls trying to catch something for dinner.
And we already arrive at Caleta del Sebo where we go to the La Graciosa diving center to take our luggage and then to the apartment that the diving center booked for us.
Tomorrow will be our last hiking day on this wonderful journey. We will do the last stage on the north section of La Graciosa hiking route.
