Munturull Peak Ascent
7h45min (6h in movement) 17,5 km +1.000m/-1.000m
At this time and as we found little snow, the route could be done only with winter boots, but we recommend bringing snowshoes since the last climb to the top is a fairly steep ramp and the snow was so soft that you sank easily, and this way we will avoid any scare. They were great for us, just for this little section. In the middle of winter it is an ideal route for snowshoes.
We leave the Aransa Nordic Ski resort, we easily climb the track in the Aransa forest, until we reach the first pass, the Queralt pass, where there is an esplanade and we see the Cadí mountain range right in front, how beautiful! Here we took the opportunity to have breakfast.

Here we leave behind the detour to go to the Mirador del Pla de la Llet (nice family outing) and continue climbing steeply through the forest without a clear path, which little by little we leave behind to give way to more alpine terrain, until we reach a first hill, the Turó Punçó.
From here we have very good views, and we see the entire ridge that lies ahead until we reach the goal of the day, the Munturull Peak, there is still a way to go!

Next, we go down the other side to link up with the entire Airosa ridge following the different milestones that mark the way to the top, climbing different hills until we always easily reach the base of Munturull, a point where due to the state of snow we decided to put on our snow shoes as we sank in the snow a lot.

Arriving to Munturull
Final ramp and we reach the top! The top of Munturull is very wide and perhaps the views are not as spectacular as on the ridge, where the entire Pyrenees can be seen spectacularly, and especially the Perafita peak rising imposingly in front of Munturull, but we enjoyed it a lot anyway😊.
We took the opportunity to rest , take photos and eat a little.

After a while at the top (it’s a very good day, no wind and there is absolutely no one, so it’s great up here!) We decided to go back. The way back will be the same as the way out, so we go down the ridge again.

… and arriving at the Aransa forest, the Dalt pass, unlike on the way out, we went down left to Prat Miró and thus along a forest track, towards the car park at the Aransa Nordic ski resort.

To consider…
Ideal route to do on snow shoes in winter, although we recommend considering a longer duration than ours, since due to lack of snow we did most of the route with boots. A good approximation would be to add 1 hour more.
Recommended gear..
- Snow shoes
- GPS, it is not essential since it does not have much loss, but it is always recommended
- ARVA, shovel and probe highly recommended in the middle of winter
- Check the weather forecast and avalanche bulletins
