Buceo en la Graciosa: Dedos. Lanzarote 2020

La Graciosa Diving: The Fingers

This dive site located northeast of the island of La Graciosa, where we have dived in an underwater valley limited by two elevations called ‘the fingers‘ of basalt stone. These dark-colored elevations stand out well against the sandy bottom. Now there is an invasive algae, but still the black-white contrast is very nice to see.

La Graciosa Diving 5: The Fingers

We leave the area of “the River” where we have already dived in in Grunts, White Trevally II, White Trevally Cave and Anchor Reef diving spots.

In the first leg with the zodiac we have headwind and sea is choopy, but we are doing well. We are happy because we finally change the diving area, after three days in a row diving in the River.

Views of the diving area (NE of the island) with the Risco de Famara in front. From Aguja Grande during day 8 of our Lanzarote – La Graciosa hiking rout.

So today we are heading NE to do ‘the fingers‘ dive site where the protagonists are the basalt stone walls that contrast sharply with the sandy bottom. Now there is an invasive algae but still the black-white contrast is very nice to see.

Basaltic stones

As on other occasions, on the boat the diving guides separate the people into 2 groups of 4 to 6 people per guide. This time we go with Edy.

The rock walls have amazing square shapes. In this beautiful landscape there was an explosion of life that seemed to be waiting for us.

Barracudas, groupers, mottled grouper, moray eels, forkbeards, barred hogfish, parrotfish, brown meagre… Impressive the large groupers and barred hogfish that looked like lapdogs due to their proximity and stillness. They would come very close and stop to watch you.

At the fingers dive site there is a large cave, the bottom of which is covered with hundreds of tube worms. There was a large grouper there, to the right of the entrance.

Also, in the hollows of the rocks, we saw many arrow crabs. At first it seems that there are not many, but if we look closely, we will see them everywhere! Also the beautiful small red scorpionfish, with big eyes, and many more species. We were surprised by a large and showy conch shell.

Diving here means we will spend a lot of time arround 20 meters so at 40min we have to go up to avoid deco.

As we are a little exposed to the N, where the wind is frequent in this direction, we have a little swell on the surface. But we are careful and everything is fine.

The fingers is located in a very beautiful area, where divers have to go if we have the possibility. For sure it is one of the best dive sites in La Graciosa.

La Graciosa Diving Center, in the port of Caleta del Sebo

Finalizada la inmersión volvemos a Caleta del Sebo. Las inmersiones se realizan a las 9h y a la 13h con lo que da tiempo para descansar y poder hacer la segunda inmersión con 3 horas de tiempo de superficie.

After the dive we return to Caleta del Sebo. The dives are at 9 am and at 1 pm, which gives time to rest and do the second dive with 3 hours of surface time.

Very happy with Buceo La Graciosa dive center. Stay with us and discover the next underwater treasure in La Graciosa; Gerardias reef, a unique place to discover coral species between 500 and 1,000 years old!
