Buceo en la Graciosa: Cueva de Jureles, Lanzarote 2020

La Graciosa diving: white trevally cave

This dive site, as well as Grunts and White Trevally II, is located between La Graciosa and Lanzarote, a place known as ‘the River‘(el Rio), because it is very common to find strong currents (as in a river) due to the tides. Here we will find a thick bar of rock that extends about 1 km perpendicularly crossing the river. In it there are several diving spots, such as Lobsters Reef to the south or White Trevally Cave to the north.

We will enjoy a lot of life, fish such as groupers, white trevally, Brown meagre, surmullet, mongrels,… as well as red mullet, nudibranchs and many moray eels. Near this dive there is a historic anchor to the sand bottom.

In this case we will go to explore a large cave on the rocky bottom, where we could see a large white trevalley, among other fish such as groupers and mottled grouper.

As well as Grunts and White Trevally II dive sites located in “the river”, the dive consists of going through a rocky area of the reef, as well as exploring the sandy area to spot an angelshark (if you are lucky!), stingrays or eagle rays.

Highlight the large number of surmullet that we see in the sand.

We continue exploring for a long time, as in these dives we see the typical fish of the area such as parrotfishes, combers, groupers,  moray eels, salemas,..

We love to see parrotfishes; the males are more discreet with gray colors, on the other hand, the females are very striking red, yellow and blue colors.

Perched on the bottom we will find more painted comber, how we like these fish!

Among the rocks, hidden in holes, we see forkbeards, dark gray fish with large eyes and ‘whiskers’. Also perched on the rocks, we see small red scorpionfish. Also reddish, we see atlantic bigeye hidden in holes, see inmersión Burrera

And as always, nice ornate wrasse and chromis, fluttering and moving fast in the environment.

We can find many red and yellow gorgonians along the edge, we saw them on several occasions, attached to the bottom.

At the end of the dive, trying to see angelsharks, a nice marbled electric ray appearance made its presence on the sandy bottom.

If we look closely, we will also find a lot of small life on the rocks of the reef, such as crabs and nudibranchs. As well as a medium size fish busy in the background, eating: shi drum.

In the distance we saw an anchor. We will see them better in the next dive in the anchors reef.

After the dive we return to Caleta del Sebo. The dives are at 9 am and at 1 pm, which gives time to rest and do the second dive with 3 hours of surface time.

Very happy with Buceo La Graciosa dive center, we get ready for the next dive in La Graciosa: Anchors Reef
