Buceo en la Graciosa: Jureles II, Lanzarote 2020

La Graciosa Diving: White trevally II

Fantastic and quiet dive where, as its name suggests, we will see large banks of white trevallies and abundance of fish. Located approximately in the middle of the rocky edge that extends about a kilometer between Lanzarote and La Graciosa perpendicular to the river, its walls with holes and cracks serve as a refuge for a large number of fish such as groupers, mottled grouper, parrotfishes and moray eels, among others.

This dive site, located between La Graciosa and Lanzarote, is known as ‘el Río’, (the river) because it is very common to find strong currents (as in a river) due to the tides.

La Graciosa Diving 2: White Trevally II

As in the first dive we did on the island, Grunts dive site, in this place, White Trevally II, we had the opportunity to dive here twice. In this post we will group our experience and what we could see.

Both times it was our second dive of the day, with a similar surface time, 3 hours (first dive at 9am and second at 1pm).

This dive is called White Trevally because it is very easy to find large schools of this fish in the reef.

As in “Grunts” dive site, the dive consists of going through an area between the cliff and the rocky area. The multiple cracks, cavities and hiding places in the rocks mean that the dives are always a little different depending on the route we take, and life is always changing and different.

Among the rocks we see small fish like Spotted Burrfish, how beautiful they are!, mediterranean cardinalfish and chromis.

We also see many other larger species such as groupers and mottled grouper.

We continue exploring for a long time, in these corners of rocks we also see species such as hermit crabs, lizardfish or slipper lobster, of a good size!

And as if wondering what some divers are doing there, a comber stares at us curiously

During the dive we will see moray eels in the holes, ornate wrasses, white seabream and salemas.

In this landscape in the cliff between volcanic rocks and sandy bottom in “the river” area, we really enjoy this dive, where at the end of the second one, we see a large group of barracudas, and they pass by very close!

We also go to the sandy area to try to see angelsharks, stingrays or eagle ray. We did not see angelshark in any of the 2 dives but we did see stingrays or eagle ray.

Perched on the bottom a painted comberfish, what beautiful colors these fish have!

After the dive we return to Caleta del Sebo. The dives are at 9 am and at 1 pm, which gives time to rest and to do the second dive wafter 3 hours of surface time, this was our case on the two occasions that we went to white trevally II dive site.

Very happy with the dives and with Buceo La Graciosa dive center, we washed the gear and we left it in the dive center, ready to continue diving the next day.

Stay with us and discover the next dive in La Graciosa; the La Graciosa diving: white trevally cave.
